Getting to the Heart of the Matter

Being faced with a long term health condition can raise many questions and leave patients and their families feeling confused about their futures.  One of the most common areas of concern lies with those who have experienced heart illnesses.

To help answer questions and promote better understanding of various heart conditions LINkrotherham, in partnership with North Trent Cardiac Network and Rotherham Heart Support Group, organised a workshop for people with heart conditions and their families on 7th July at the Carlton Park Hotel.
The event proved highly popular with over 70 people attending.  They took the opportunity to find out more about their condition, speak to people with similar or the same conditions and have their questions and concerns answered by a panel of experts.  LINkrotherham arranged for a consultant cardiologist, a local GP and specialist nurses to be available to answer people’s medical and care queries.

Two members of the Rotherham Heart Support Group talked about their own experiences and, during workshop sessions, people shared their views on the services they have received.

The patients and their families who attended felt the event had provided valuable information in many areas of living with heart conditions and continuing to lead full and rewarding lives.

Due to the success of ‘Getting to the heart of the matter’, we are hoping to run similar events in the future on different health areas. If you have an idea about a future topic please contact a member of the LINk Support Team.
