Review of Children's Congenital Cardiac Services
31st March 2011
The NHS is reviewing how it delivers congenital heart services to children in England and Wales.
This is at the request of national parent groups, NHS clinicians and their professional associations.
Safe and Sustainable has launched a public consultation on the future of children’s congenital heart services.
Rotherham children and young people with serious congenital heart problems are currently referred to Leeds for surgery. In 3 of the 4 options, Rotherham children would be referred for surgery for their heart condition at other specialist centres. Depending on the preferred option this could be either Newcastle, Leicester or Birmingham.
The NHS would like views from the public about the proposed changes including the people most affected: parents, young people and NHS staff.
The public consultation runs until 1 July 2011.
