South Yorkshire Centre for Inclusive Living

24th September 2009

South Yorkshire Centre for Inclusive Living is a user led organisation providing a range of services for Disabled people.  Our current services include IT training, Occupational Therapy and alternative IT equipment assessments, Independent Living Advice, Advocacy, and Information.   We are based in Doncaster, but have a remit to cover the whole of South Yorkshire and since May 2009 have been working in Rotherham.

Centres for Inclusive Living (CIL’s) typically are managed by Disabled people themselves.  The majority of SYCIL’s staff team and management committee are Disabled people.  Our work is firmly rooted within the Social Model of Disability, which says that Disabled people are the real experts in disability, and that Disabled people should have full choice and control over the services they need in order to live independently.

We are currently providing a service from the RDIS office in the Central Library, consisting of welfare rights advice and information on a variety of subjects including equipment, transport and holidays for Disabled people.

How you can get involved

We have also set up a steering group of local Disabled people and agency staff to find out what local people want and to take ideas forward for CIL services in Rotherham.

We are interested in your views, so please contact Jo Ritson on 01709 373658 or 01302 892958 or email jo.r@sycil.org

You can either become a steering group member, feed in your opinions and views or if you belong to a group, arrange for Jo to come out and meet with you.

The steering group meets once per month at Springwell Community Gardens Community Centre.
